The battle with the pests!

I really really really really really dislike killing pests cause my dad once said that it was a cruel thing to do.

But pests are called pests for a reason, right?

1. Small bugs eg beetles and ants

They are easy to kill because they seemed so harmless. You can just smack it and chuck them into the bin without worrying.

2. Lizards

I hardly come across them in Australia but they do exist!! I never actually killed one in my house because they usually hang around outside.

3. Spiders

I used to be sooooo freaking scared of them because of their appearance. I remember that the first time I visited Perth for holiday, I was in a room with my Mom and when we were about to open the door, a MASSIVE spider (which is also hairy) was crawling right beside the door knob.

Nowadays, I don’t see spiders that big anymore.

I would just inspect it first (to see if it’s a redback) then I would spray pesticide and chuck them away. The easy thing about killing a spider is that they don’t run very fast and are usually motionless until they’re touched.

4. Crickets

They are noisy at night, and can jump really high which makes them really hard to catch!!

Hence, I never kill them anyway. I would usually just grab a broom, and sweep it to the direction out of the house. So it will be out of the house, but never dead.

5. Cockroaches

They are the hardest one to kill and I’m actually SCARED of them.

Some cockroaches fly, you see. They all look disgusting, brown and they run really really fast. The scariest bit of cockroaches are that they are unpredictable and sneaky!!! They can be motionless for 1 second or run for the lives for the next without even being triggered to do so! They can crawl up any surface crawl-able, ewww!

Of course, Australian cockroaches are very slim and flat! So, you might find that they can actually hide ANYWHERE.

*cringes*

But the weakest point of cockroaches are that they breathe through their back, so you can spray very little pesticide on their backs, and they will suffocate and die.

*cringes even more*

6. Mices/rats

They are worse than cockroaches. They are simply too hard to catch.

They roam around in the kitchen and eat everything they can. You will know if your kitchen has one (or more than one) when you see that the corner of break package is bitten and bits of bread is gone. I tell you, it happens EVERYWHERE.

What’s worse is that some person would not even know the existance of mices in their own kitchen until they have seen one!

They are very sneaky and smart!

They will usually come out at night for night and hide in the daytime to avoid being seen. Even if you ever seen them, you will never see them for more than 1 second because they run so damn fast! You will never find where they are cause they are brillant at hiding.

Never put mouse trap and cheese though cause they don’t work =.= and my sister managed to stepped on one before. The best way is definitely to put the sticky trap that smells like food (hopefully they smell LIKE food) or rat poison.

The sticky trap will trap the mouse but it is up to you what you want to do with it. The rat poison will definitely kill the mouse but you will not know where it end up dying, until you found it.

Actually I’m writing all these because I did have a “battle” with a cockroach last night. It took me more than half an hour to successfully kill it.

It will actually crawling on top of the kitchen bench where I was standing, waiting for the water to boil. I couldn’t scream because it was 2am and everyone was sleeping =.=

So I quietly took a small broom and dustpan and pesticide. I HATE this cockroach because it was hanging around the kitchen area and I didn’t want to spray pesticide there so I wont contaminate anything that we use to cook food. So the cockroach ran under the microwave, and toaster. That’s where my little LED torch came in handy!!

It was hiding for so long that I couldn’t find it even with my torch.

Until the cockroach decided to come out from hiding and flea the scene, I quickly spray pesticide on it and it turned upside down, legs facing the ceiling, tongue sticking out and dead.

In addition, I treat it to some yummy toilet E.coli water by flushing it down the toilet.

*evil laughs*

and then…

*cringes*

But I couldn’t sleep for almost 1 hour because I always get that touchy feeling after killing a pest. It makes me feel like another one is gonna be crawling on me when I’m sleeping!!

=.=

Luck

I believe that there is no good or bad luck.

If something bad happens, and you don’t attempt to pick yourself up then you will definitely have bad luck in your life.

Merry Christmas!

2009 is almost over, and today we are celebrating christmas!

Christmas this year is slightly different from other years because I didn’t have time to prepare for anything and I feel like the festive season is coming closer when everyone started giving out chocolates, christmas cards and greetings.

And this is what I spent my Christmas eve doing…

WORKING!

pathwest

… with no pay!!

In fact, I’ve been on work experience at Royal Perth Hospital Haematology department for the past month. Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm. Everyday, 600+ blood samples will arrive at the laboratory at different times and I put them through a machine for analysis. Based on the analysis, a decision is made on whether a blood film is required. 100+ samples per day are placed through another machine for blood film making and I coverslip them to send them to the “film” room for examination.

Other than that, I test a number blood samples each day for malaria.

AND I’m so broke!!

So, that’s what I’ve been busy with lately.

Poor Snowflake :(

For some reason, the vet didn’t believe that this cute bird was named Snowflake

“Snowflake” Koh. It’s like saying my name is “Irene” Lee. LOL. But all I can say is “Snowflake” is not a virtual name! It’s better than “Peegu” Koh, right? xD

Last but not last, MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!!

When something goes wrong, you cry… you scream… you refuse… but in the end, you just gotta pick yourself up and move on.

I’m glad I did.

I may not feel the happiest at the moment, but at least I do not feel helpless like last time.

I want to thank Ken for being there when I cried, and for friends (you know who you are) for being concern and cared for me.

This year is almost coming to an end. I can barely believe it myself that days pass by so fast.

At this point of time, I should be resting, relaxing, holiday-ing or whatever you call it. But I can’t let my life cool down for the holiday mood because there are millions of checklist running through my head. So I want to make use of this particular post to let out some of my little emotions…

1) I miss Singapore.

Not just a little but quite alot. I miss my cousin - I could practically remember her voice and smile in my head right now. I can’t even remember how many times I’ve abandon her after coming to Perth. It’s so hard trying to miss the place I grew up in because people are always asking me if I’m going anywhere around this period of time.

Sometimes, I wished I could tell them that I am going back to Singapore.

Sometimes, I wished I could just stop thinking and let myself get even more used to my current life - even though I’m already used to whatever I have now.

2) To Nicnic.

You’re always the one that I can say my deep thoughts and feelings to but I could never tell you this face to face.

I will miss you (oh gosh! stop tearing…) ALOT… if you’re gone. Although I’m not sure if you’re leaving but I am really very upset whenever you mention about going back. Somehow, I know that this day will evenutally come but I always hoped that this day will never come. The only thing I pictured in my head from the beginning of our friendship is the beautiful moment when we hug and cry during graduation and the catching up for coffee in our professional working clothes.

If you leave in the near future, promise me that you will always take good care of yourself and no matter how often we contact each other, I hope that you will invite me to your wedding and email me pictures of your future baby. Of course, think of me when you… drink soy bean milk with your playboy mug, roll on any grass, hug any sofa cushion, eat bacon and egg muffin for breakfast or receive yellow flowers.

In such a beautiful cool night, let us all remain silent and remember all the wonderful memories we ever had in our lives.
